Halloween Night – Horror Tales at The Lounge

Seeing as 2015 is almost at a close, and I am so behind on posting this review and offer my apologies to the potential readers within cyberspace.  I would love to give a completely unbiased, and impartial review, however the law of averages dictates that my review will be somewhat subjective however not overly sycophantic.  The flyer for Halloween comes courtesy of Chris Johnson, who also DJs at The Lounge on their Alternative/Metal Nights.  I was fortunate to see and hear Maiden Lancashire warm up for this gig, whilst the sound levels and overall acoustics were being checked over, having watched Maiden Lancashire perform their debut at Victoria Park’s Big Busk earlier in September.  Lead singer, Lee Hinds, is also a former work colleague of mine, and it’s fantastic to see he’s found his niche in belting out Iron Maiden classics and his own personal take on Iron Maiden frontman, Bruce Dickinson.  Although I was unable to stay for the entirety of their headlining set, I was impressed with what I actually heard, and I firmly believe that Lee has come a long way since I first heard him singing along to Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive.

Next up, we had Desolation Station, The Lounge’s house band, formerly known as Dinosaur Fire.  Having had the opportunity to once play the drums for Dinosaur Fire November 2014, it was great to hear that they had added some ‘new’ cover songs to their repertoire.  Namely, the late, great Patrick Swayze’s She’s Like The Wind, and also Love Will Never Tear Us Apart, by the formidable INXS.  And if memory serves correct, I am certain they also covered Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone.  By the time The Last Reserves came on stage, I was more than a little bit merry, and what I remember most about their set, is lead singer Samantha singing her own interpretation of The Buzzcocks’ Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve).  Really enjoyed the set by Reya, having seen them earlier in the year at The Lounge, and also Black Neon Knights after first watching them perform at The Rockbox in St Helens in Summer 2014.
